Tragedy in Tarnów: Drunk parents left four small children unattended

A dangerous situation unfolded in Tarnów, where four children, aged between 10 months and 4 years, were left without supervision. Bloodstains were found in the apartment, and the police are currently investigating the circumstances of the incident.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening on Widok Street in Tarnów (Lesser Poland Voivodeship). Police officers and a medical rescue team were called to one of the apartments, as reported by the portal tarnowska.tv.

Upon arrival, officers found four children: ten-month-old twins and two other children aged 3 and 4. Blood traces were discovered in the apartment, but the children were unharmed. The police was notified by third parties who had come to the scene to take care of the children.

“The informants were present in the home and were looking after the children. Shortly after, the 32-year-old father returned, heavily intoxicated, with a head wound that was bleeding. Several minutes later, the 26-year-old mother also arrived,” said Paweł Klimek, the press officer of the Tarnów police, on Monday.

The 26-year-old woman had over 2 per mille of alcohol in her blood, while the 32-year-old man exceeded 3 per mille. Due to his head injury, the father was taken to the hospital, while the mother was transported to a sobering-up center. The children were placed under the care of emergency childcare services. After being examined, they were found to be in good condition.

Forensic technicians arrived at the scene to collect and secure evidence and to prepare proper documentation. Investigators are now working to determine how long the children had been left without supervision.

“Further actions will be taken after all individuals involved in this event have been questioned,” the officer stated. The case will be handled by both the prosecutor’s office and the family court.

Currently, the police are conducting an investigation under Article 160 of the Penal Code for exposing children to the risk of loss of life or health, which is a criminal offense. The parents could face up to 5 years in prison. According to unofficial reports from Onet, the parents had allegedly been drinking alcohol that day in the company of their neighbors.
